YOUR VISIT TO THE TREETOP WALK BAVARIAN FOREST

Are dogs allowed on the Treetop Walk in Neuschönau?

Dogs* or animals of any kind are unfortunately not allowed on the trail, not even on a lead or in a bag.

In addition to the hygiene aspect, the safety aspect (for animals and humans) plays a major role in the ban on animals on the trail. Most responsible owners keep a safe eye on their animal, yet dogs can show unexpected social behaviour towards strangers and also towards other animals. A fear of heights in dogs can also trigger flight behaviour. Unfortunately, the narrow path width offers neither retreat nor escape possibilities for animals or for people with any fear of animals.

*Exception: companion dogs for the disabled and assistance dogs.

However, there are dog crates with fresh water available on the grounds, which you can use free of charge. You can get info about this at the ticket office.

Is the trail open in bad weather?

Yes, the trail is open all year round, even when it rains, and when it snows the trail is cleared and accessible.

Only during thunderstorms, hail, storms and ice do we reserve the right to close the trail for safety reasons.

If we have to close the trail at short notice, we will announce it here on the website. We recommend you check back there on the day of your visit before you begin your journey!

How long does it take to visit the Treetop Walk?

The visit to the Treetop Walk takes about one and a half to two hours. You can supplement your excursion with a stop at the Waldwirtschaft or Café EISENMANN, both located directly on the trail in Neuschönau. Directly at the trail exit you will also find the Hans-Eisenmann-Haus visitor centre and the animal enclosure, where you can learn more about the National Park.

Can children go on the Treetop Walk alone?

Children under 14 years of age need an adult companion. The trail is barrier-free, which means that it can be easily accessed with prams or wheelchairs. We have a family rate for families.

Can I use inline skates on the Treetop Walk?

Unfortunately not! For safety reasons, inline skates, skateboards, city scooters and bicycles are not allowed on the walkway.

Can I fly a drone on the Treetop Walk?

Anyone may take photographs and film on the Treetop Walk for private purposes. However, overflights and filming with drones is prohibited. In addition to environmental protection (noise from larger drones, disturbance of strictly protected animal habitats during take-off, landing and drone flights), the protection of our visitors from unwanted recordings also plays a role in the ban.
A filming permit is always required for photo and film recordings made at the Treetop Walk for commercial purposes. More information is available in our press section.

Is there a baby changing room at the Treetop Walk?

There is a baby changing room directly at the exit of the trail in the Waldwirtschaft inn.

Can I hire buggies or pushchairs on site?

You can borrow buggies and baby carriages free of charge by calling +49 8558 / 738 91-0.

Important information:

  • We ask for your understanding that on days with a particularly high number of visitors, all the children’s buggies and boller carts may be taken.
  • Please note that a valid photo ID must be deposited at the cash desk as a deposit when renting.
  • The ID must be collected from the ticket office at least one hour before closing time.

The following items can also be borrowed free of charge from the Neuschönau animal enclosure:

Can I smoke on the Treetop Walk?

Smoking is prohibited on the Treetop Walk. This may seem strange at first for an open-air leisure facility, but please note: You are in a strictly protected area. Carelessly discarded cigarette butts are unwelcome co-inhabitants here, which not only persist (2-7 years) but can also start forest fires.

Can I take a picnic with me on the Treetop Walk?

Of course you are allowed to bring your own food and drinks. Please note, however, that you must take back everything you bring with you. For the sake of the environment, please do not throw any rubbish off the trail and leave everything as you would like to find it. There are bins in several places around the trail.

There are two Treetop Walks in Bavaria. Is the Waldwipfelweg in St. Englmar one of them?

In addition to the Treetop Walk Bavarian Forest in the Bavarian Forest National Park in Neuschönau (district of Freyung-Grafenau), there is another Treetop Walk in St. Englmar (district of Straubing-Bogen) in Bavaria. However, Erlebnis Akademie AG (that’s us!) operates only the Treetop Walk in Neuschönau, in addition to many other Treetop Walks around the world. The treetop path in St. Englmar is run by a different operator.

Are there mobile home parking spaces near the Treetop Walk?

Yes, there are parking spaces for motorhomes directly at the Treetop Walk. You can find out more about this directly in our visitor information.

There are many camping possibilities in the Bavarian Forest National Park holiday region. Please note that overnight stays are only permitted on designated sites. An overview of the various campsites can be found here.
